Now that the Starry Bull Hymnal and Calendar set is out of the way I’m ready to start working on the devotional anthology I mentioned a while back.
Entitled Holy Words for the Gods and Spirits of Bacchic Orphism – it’s going to be exactly that: a collection of hymns, prayers, poetry, and short pieces in praise of the members of our extended pantheon. While the core of this anthology will be Dionysos and his retinue we’ll also be accepting material on related figures from the Greek, Thracian, Southern Italian and Orphic pantheons.
One of the reasons that I’m limiting this to just poetic works instead of also including essays, short stories, rituals, personal accounts and the sort of other stuff one finds in conventional devotionals is that in the end I’d like folks to be able to use this liturgically in worship.
You do not have to be a member of the thiasos of the Starry Bull to contribute. However, all of the proceeds from the sale of Holy Words will go to fund the Starry Bull Gathering in 2016 and other activities of the thiasos after that.
We’ll accept 2 pieces per divinity per person not to exceed thirteen submissions total. I’m imposing that limitation because I want this to be a truly communal effort with no one voice dominating, as is all too often the case with devotionals. An exception to the rule is Dionysos – you can contribute as much material as you like for him and it doesn’t count towards the 13 piece limit because there’s no such thing as too much when it comes to our ecstatic Lord.
The deadline for submissions is the Feast of the Dionysian Artists on December 8th with a goal to have it out by Lenaia or Anthesteria at the latest.
Please send your contributions to me at sannion@gmail.com with something in the title mentioning that it’s for the Holy Words anthology.
