A little white spider slowly descended
on its thin line from the ceiling,
suspended above the toy castle
with a moat and a large, busy city
spread out around it in the shape
of a unicursal hedge maze.
There were little toy people,
and little toy animals,
and little toy produce stalls,
and all the little toy things
you would fill a little toy city up with.
And as the spider hung
on that warm summer day
she let her mind wander and play,
dreaming them all real with fears
and hopes and stories
each uniquely their own.
And when the spider died,
so did all of them.
