Once upon a time a scorpion and a frog met on the banks of the deeply-eddying Alpheios. “I need to get to the other side,” the scorpion said. “You could carry me over this white river on your back, but I’m going to sting you. You’ll scream and then we’ll both drown in the swift current.”
“Well,” said the frog, after giving the fellow’s words due consideration. “You’re right! Everyone deserves a chance and it’s mean to judge people based solely on superficial appearances and unproven assumptions, or even their past deeds. Hop on buddy, and I’ll ferry you across to the far shore! Say, let’s sing a happy song together as we go! How’s that famous tune of Orpheus go?”
“You fucking buffoon,” laughed the scorpion. “You so deserve this, just for existing.”
