I’ve tried to make this process as little about me as possible, which is why on top of not just picking a date I even abstained from being part of the team of diviners. Not only am I uncomfortable with Apollon, even in his Soranos aspect (though I am more than willing to give him a place in the thiasos’ pantheon because he clearly fulfills a vital role that was vacant without him; no I won’t be talking about what that role is, though if you’ve been paying attention you may have a suspicion) I am frankly uncomfortable with the authority that comes with my position as archiboukolos, despite jokingly referring to myself as an evil cult-leader on numerous occasions.
Apollon, apparently, will be having none of that – there is no running from this any longer.
So, after weighing both dates and their respective merits and disadvantages I have decided that the thiasos of the Starry Bull will celebrate our Karneios festival this year on October 8th. Hopefully by then we’ll have his communal hymn finished.
