Think of it like this: they are a huge swarm of spirits, with Dionysos at the center. Around him are the gods, nymphs, satyrs and heroes of myth. Then you’ve got his devotees and initiates. But they’ve been roaming around the earth for the last couple thousand years and in that time they’ve managed to pick up a random assortment of wandering spirits.
There’s artists and heretics, visionaries and drunkards, fools and the insane, outcasts and rejects; all the souls who weren’t able to find a home anywhere else. They’ve also acquired various land-spirits and fairies and things that may be the Harlequinade or only enjoy pretending to be them. And others who may not belong, but hang out from time to time because Dionysos throws all the best parties.
